Patient-centeredness in policy and practice: A conference on evidence, programs, and implications

Current health reform and many prior initiatives have been moving the health care system towards patient-centeredness, so it’s time to take stock.

  • What is patient-centeredness, actually?
  • What programs are working and how do we know?
  • Will patient-centeredness have staying power?

Federal agency leaders and nationally recognized policy makers, practitioners and researchers will look at those questions during ECRI Institute’s 18th Annual Conference.

Report: Potential consequences of public release of food safety & inspection data

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, responsible for ensuring that meat, poultry, and processed egg products are safe, collects data at thousands of processing facilities.  A new report from the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine examines the potential food safety benefits and consequences of publishing inspection and testing data with the names of specific meat, poultry, and egg product processing plants on the Internet for public access.

Advance copies of the report will be available to reporters at 3 p.m. EST, Tuesday, Nov. 29. The chair of the committee that wrote the report will discuss its conclusions and take questions in a  web conference beginning on Nov. 30.
