Conference learning objectives – Participants will be able to:
- Describe at least three different approaches to improving the engagement of patients in their own care
- Identify at least two best practices that they will use to jump start their own behavior change to foster successful patient engagement
- Identify multiple strategies that they, as nurses, will use to influence change within healthcare systems – to improve the systems’ responses to engaged patients
Target Audiences
All registered nurses, including staff nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, chief nurse executives and nurse managers, as well as health administrators, policy makers and consumers.

- Nurses actively advocate and are accountable for consumer-centered, high quality health care.
- Policymakers recognize the contributions of nurses in advancing consumer-centered, high quality health care.
The establishment of the NAQC is based on the assumption that only with a stronger, more unified nursing policy ‘voice’ will dramatic and sustainable achievements in quality and safety for the American public be achieved.
