More than 100 people, including about 50 health journalists, turned out on June 2 for the AHCJ Washington, D.C., chapter rooftop happy hours with senior communications staff from more than a dozen health organizations.
It was the third annual event held at the Pennsylvania Avenue rooftop overlooking the White House.
Health organizations with staffers at the event included the National Pharmaceutical Council, the National Health Council, AdvaMed, the American Medical Association, PhRMA, Medicaid Health Plans of America and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
The meeting was an informal gathering to give journalists and communications officials a chance to meet and mingle. It was also the first event organized by the new D.C. chapter leadership team of Kim Leonard of U.S. News & World Report, Erin Mershon of CQ Roll Call and Tina Reed of the Washington Business Journal.
Media at the event included journalists from National Public Radio, The New York Times, Kaiser Health News, Politico, Bloomberg and The Atlantic.
The AHCJ chapter picked up some costs and journalists brought beverages or provided a $10 donation.
The attendance sets a record for the largest attendance at any local chapter event.
