Review: Doctors experimented on healthy people

The Associated Press’ Mike Stobbe found more than 40 instances of doctors making patients sick for the sake of experimentation throughout U.S. history. Last fall’s government apology for doctors infecting Guatemala prisoners with syphilis 65 years ago sparked the review.

Stobbe, a member of AHCJ and a past board member, found healthy people were infected with malaria, Asian flu, gonorrhea, hepatitis and even a deadly stomach bug for the sake of broadening knowledge. Doctors violated the fundamental medical principle to “first do no harm.” Stobbe points out:

Attitudes about medical research were different then. Infectious diseases killed many more people years ago, and doctors worked urgently to invent and test cures. Many prominent researchers felt it was legitimate to experiment on people who did not have full rights in society – people like prisoners, mental patients, poor blacks. It was an attitude in some ways similar to that of Nazi doctors experimenting on Jews.

Disturbingly, some of these stories were never covered in the media.

A few years ago I had what two doctors told me would alleviate the pain I had been going through most of my life due to a shattered spine. They removed old metal rods that bothered me and then injected me with what they told me was a kind of glue that one of the doctors had invented for replacing discs instead of fusions. I had the procedure and felt good for about two weeks. because the main doctor said he packed the area with pain medicine to last for a while. After that the pain came back and I was afraid of going had having something done again.
Just this last week I was reading my local newspaper and read where the Hospital where it was done and the two doctors were being sued because the doctor that injected this invented mixture was a anesthesiologist and not a surgeon. Also what was injected was some form of Plexiglass that is supposed to be impossible to remove and it has cause serious damage to the victims. The Hospital in the article were accused of covering it up. I was so shocked that a non surgeon worked on me. and that I was not notified about this by the Hospital. I called an attorney listed in the article and he said he could not help me and never answered my reply email.
1st I want to know what can happen to a person with this plexiglass inside of them.
2nd. I do not know what symptoms can happen.
3rd Is there anyway I can get help?
