As the rest of the nation ages, so do the doctors, nurses and other health care professionals headed for retirement. The result is a triple whammy for the U.S. health care system: an aging cadre of health care workers, inadequate numbers of replacements in the training pipeline, and a burgeoning population of elders whose medical and supportive service needs are expected to severely tax existing services and facilities.
