What reporters need to know about covering Ebola

Media audiences far away from west Africa are seeing more and more Ebola-related stories in their own states or communities. What do reporters need to know?

Pose your questions to Alexander P. Isakov, M.D., M.P.H., executive director of Emory University’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response. Emory has treated four Ebola patients. Mike Stobbe, medical writer for The Associated Press, will pose your questions to our guest.

Alexander P. Isakov, M.D., M.P.H., is the executive director of Emory University’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response and an associate professor of emergency medicine. He has led the development of the new CEPAR office and its various initiatives to improve Emory’s capacity for emergency management. His professional experience includes service as an officer in the United States Navy, consulting for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deploying with the National Disaster Medical System, and providing leadership in emergency medical services and disaster response throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area. Isakov practices clinically in the emergency departments of Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University Hospital.

Mike Stobbe, Dr. P.H., is a medical writer for The Associated Press. He has been a health reporter for the past 23 years, and has won several awards for his work. Previously, he covered health care and medicine at The Charlotte Observer, the Tampa Tribune, the Florida Times-Union and The Flint Journal in Michigan. He has a doctorate in public health from the University of North Carolina, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
