Data from CMS on Medicare Advantage enrollment and Part D enrollment by plan for every state and every month. This is useful for assessing the impact of mergers. The Wall Street Journal used the data for its analysis.

July 23, noon ET
Katherine Hempstead, who directs the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s work on health insurance coverage, will be sharing data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Annual Exhibit on Enrollment, Premiums, and Utilization for 2014 that will provide information on insurance carriers in each state – their enrollment, premiums collected, claims incurred, and several measures of utilization, including hospital admissions and hospital days, and also physician and non-physician ambulatory care visits.
The data offers a level of detail not available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is available for the non-group (individual), small group, and large group markets. While the data does not break down enrollment on and off health insurance exchanges for the non-group market (those who do not require subsidies can sign up outside of the exchanges), there are steps you can take to estimate these numbers by state.
Reporters on this call will learn more about the carriers in their state’s insurance markets and their claims experience for different product lines. Charles Ornstein, a senior reporter at ProPublica, will moderate the webcast. Neil Vance, a senior actuary with New Jersey’s Department of Human Services, also will participate.
