This story draws attention to the under-appreciated threat of community-associated methicillin-resistant S.aureus (CA-MRSA), explaining that, while the bug has largely been associated with outbreaks in mostly male groups (jail inmates, sports teams), it is in fact distributed throughout society, can attack anyone, and in particular poses an unacknowledged threat to women and children. This story was prescient: It preceded 8 months two Journal of the American Medical Association articles that made the same point and sparked nationwide coverage.
