Still Saving Our Lives, Saving Our Breasts

African Americans are setting the wrong records for a host of health conditions, including hypertension, stroke, fibroids, obesity and diabetes. Although black women aren’t NO.1 in developing breast cancer, they have the leading death rate. Why? Some women have inadequate access to health care; others may be uninsured or underinsured. But the reality is that some women are dying simply because they’re in denial. They let breast cancer and other conditions become a death sentence, because they wait too long to seek medical attention. They don’t want to deal with it, or they’re afraid.
