Ruby found compelling cases where the experiences of individuals highlighted issues in our medical system and or public policy. In Wanderers, for example, she showed how police who don’t understand dementia patients waste potentially lifesaving time looking for them in the wrong places when they go missing. In the Art of Alzheimer’s she reminds us of the essential humanity of patients even after they disappear behind the wall of Alzheimer’s. With Navigating a Fragmented System, she highlighted the frustrations both patients and their families experience trying to get help. And in Young Invincibles, she shows us how the Affordable Care Act is playing out with one of its most critical contingents. These examples show her range of reporting on issues that are critical to our community.
