New Proposed Cuts in EEG Reimbursement Imperil Epilepsy Care

This is another in a series of stories that discusses the impact that proposed Medicare reimbursement cuts for a common neurology procedure — electroencephalography (EEG) — could have on the bottom line of neurologists in practice and academic practices. This and other stories in this series raised awareness among members of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), engaging them in an advocacy campaign to protest these cuts. As a result of the advocacy, the AAN was given the opportunity to present its case for ameliorating the proposed cuts to a Medicare advisory panel. Cuts for these procedures were eliminated or eased in the 2014 physician fee schedule (from the agency) released at the end of November (2013).
