Hunter Health Clinic, one of three federally qualified health centers in Wichita, had a highly paid CEO and is facing financial troubles. When we requested financial documents after clinic leadership changed, our requests remained unanswered. Hunter Health Clinic receives the majority of its funding from the federal government. We put in a records request with Wichita State University for clinic-related emails to find out more about the financial troubles at the clinic (the former and current chair of the clinic worked at the university, so their emails can be open to the public) and in response, the Eagle was sued by the clinic. We are still waiting for a ruling that could set new precedent for open records law in Kansas.
