Cyberbullying: When Online Harassment Turns Deadly

For some children and teens, online harassment can lead to more than embarrassment. In more than one case, being “cyberbullied” has led to teens taking their own lives. An estimated one in three teenagers has been a victim of bullying on the Internet via social networking sites, email or Web sites created by someone to directly target another young person. Not only is this form of harassment prevalent, but it’s very hard to stop. Once something is broadcast on a listserv, there’s no way to stop it. Our story not only highlights an undercovered issue, but it also supplies school officials, parents, and kids with ways to fight back.
