Blast Wave: The Invisible Wounds of War

Blast Wave traces the evolution of research into traumatic brain injury, and how investigations into sports concussions led to stunning revelations about the dangers of boxing, football and other athletic endeavors. The story then exposes how the military largely missed the devastating effects of blast forces on troops’ brains. Finally, Blast Wave reveals the surprising story about how sports-related medical research reshaped how the military handles traumatic brain injuries. The vehicle for this complex story was the compelling personal journey of Sgt. Jonathan Baxley, a local Air Force Explosive Ordnance technician who was blown up numerous times by IEDs. Blast Wave shows how science and politics intersect.
