Bad Practice

Bad Practice is a cross-border investigative project that exposes systemic failures in medical oversight. This reporting reveals how doctors stripped of their licenses for serious misconduct are able to move to other countries and continue practicing, due to lax oversight at both national and international levels, including a European Union alert system that is barely or never used by some countries.

This project was a collaboration of more than 50 media outlets, involving months of intensive reporting and data analysis. OCCRP’s research and data team and its media partners compiled more than 2.5 million records using dozens of web scrapers, filing Freedom of Information requests, analyzing court records and media reports, and building extensive datasets country by country.
