For GlaxoSmithKline PLC an FDA advisory committee recommendation that the diabetes drug Avandia stay on the market, albeit with new warnings, is cause for celebration. But the rest of the pharmaceutical industry shouldn’t break out the champaign just yet. The committee may have saved Avandia but at the cost of further damaging the FDAs already damaged image as a decision maker.
