Community policing is a philosophy within law enforcement that relies on using partnerships within the community and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the conditions that risk public safety issues, such as crime, social disorder and fear of crime, according to the Department of Justice. Community policing recognizes that police alone cannot solve public safety issues and encourages officers and departments to collaborate with community members, other government agencies, nonprofits, private businesses and the media.
