JAMA Media Briefing on Obesity

At this media briefing, leading researchers will present new findings on various topics regarding obesity:

  • What effect may a manufactured chemical commonly found in consumer products have on the risk of obesity in children and teens?
  • What are the long-term effects of gastric bypass surgery on weight loss and conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol levels ?
  • Does a certain type of body fat increase the risk for diabetes?
  • What should be the role of government and the food industry in reducing the excess consumption of calories?

The briefing will feature speakers from:

  • NYU School of Medicine
  • University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas
  • New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
  • University of Utah School of Medicine, Salt Lake City

The moderator will be JAMA Editor-in Chief Howard Bauchner, M.D.
