Epidemiological evidence shows that people who are obese or overweight are at greater risk of developing some types of cancer. Obesity also may affect tumor progression in many cancers. The National Cancer Policy Forum will host a workshop Oct. 31-Nov. 1 to examine the role of obesity in cancer survival and recurrence, potential interventions, and gaps in current knowledge. Presenters will discuss the role of obesity and weight gain in developing various forms of cancer, mechanisms by which obesity may influence cancer progression, and potential ways to intervene to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
