The National Center for Health Statistics is expected release a report showing that a large percentage of American adults meet the criteria for metabolic syndrome. According to NCHS, metabolic syndrome is a collection of heart-disease risk factors including "abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, insulin resistance and high cholesterol."
