Sen. Obama has proposed a plan that builds on the existing employer-based system, while expanding public programs, putting in place new insurance regulations and providing new coverage options.

Speakers for this session:

  • Larry Levitt, vice president, Kaiser Family Foundation; Editor-in-Chief, kaisernetwork.org, Moderator
  • David Cutler, adviser, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.); professor of applied economics, Harvard University

Details of the proposal and the rationale behind them will be discussed and questions from viewers (e-mail ask@kaisernetwork.org) will be answered by the candidate's adviser.

Sen. McCain's plan would replace the existing tax preference for employer-based coverage with a refundable tax credit for the purchase of private insurance, and allow people to buy health insurance across state lines. View an Ask the Experts with McCain campaign adviser Jay Khosla.
