Is biology destiny? Is it our genes or the environment? What factors influence our health and how do these various factors interact? The Institute of Medicine will host a daylong public symposium during its 38th annual meeting to discuss the biological, behavioral, and social determinants of health.
The symposium is Oct. 13 from 9:20 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT in the auditorium of the National Academy of Sciences building, 2100 C St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Those who cannot attend may listen to a live audio webcast of the symposium at http://national-academies.org. A full agenda is available online.
In addition, the IOM will announce its newly elected members and foreign associates at the meeting. Election results will be available at 11 a.m. EDT at http://national-academies.org. Reporters can register to receive an embargoed list of new members in advance. The 2008 winners of the Gustav O. Lienhard Award and the Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health will be announced as well
