Prohibit Genetically Engineered Babies

Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) is a live debate series, bringing together the world’s top thinkers to debate the most crucial issues facing Americans today. IQ2US pursues its mission to raise the level of public discourse through an annual series of Oxford-style debates, featuring two teams of experts arguing for and against a provocatively worded resolution in front of a live, voting audience. Recorded for NPR, FORA.tv’s live stream, and an expanding digital media platform, IQ2US has become an internationally acclaimed and award-winning media program seen and heard by millions. In February 2013, IQ2US debated the motion “Prohibit Genetically Engineered Babies.” Sheldon Krimsky, Professor at Tufts University and Chair of the Council for Responsible Genetics, and Lord Robert Winston, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London, argued in favor of the motion. Nita Farahany, Professor of Law and Philosophy and Professor of Genome Sciences & Policy at Duke University, and Lee Silver, Professor of Molecular Biology and Public Policy at Princeton University, argued against the motion.
