3. Provide a brief synopsis of the story or stories, including any significant findings.

Even before the earthquake rocked the impoverished country of Haiti in January, its healthcare system was in shambles. Dr. Jon LaPook and Nichole Marks travelled all over the country three months after the quake to see the stark choices that physicians had to make on a daily basis.

With little to no resources and seriously overcrowded conditions, the NGOs in Port-au-Prince and the southern city of Gonaives scrambled to prevent the imminent threat of widespread disease. In the northern city of Port-de-Paix, understaffed and undersupplied clinics saw a swell of refugees from Port-au-Prince desperate for medical attention. Because CBS News travelled as a small, two-person team – each videotaping the action – Dr. LaPook was able to witness and document an intimate and dramatic scene in a delivery room in Port-de-Paix that would have been inaccessible to the usual larger crew. There were two babies born: one that lived and one that died after the only incubator in the clinic failed. The fate of the two babies is a poignant metaphor for Haiti's post-quake struggles, showing both the resilience of the Haitian people and the failure of its health care system.
