A diagnosis of a chronic disease, mental illness or condition can change one's life in many ways. In Patient Voices, we feature first person accounts of the changes, challenges and rewards patients face as they cope with various health issues. By including this feature on the Well blog, we allow our readers to share their stories as well.

Standard reporting methods were used.

The patients profiled the pieces were found in various ways. Some wrote into the NYTimes directly, others were found through comments on the NYTimes site, and others were discovered through patient groups and support networks.

One of the goals of the Patient Voices series is to show that everyone with a chronic disease has a distinct story to tell. The key is taking the time to determine this story and allow it to surface through each audio
