Nancy Shute Beat Reporting

“Over the Limit” is the first comprehensive look at Americans’ soaring of stimulant drugs, and their effect on health –all legal stimulants, including caffeine and the prescription drugs Adderall and Ritalin. This story required considerable investigative reporting, including reporting on the illegal use and sale of Adderall.

“Better Safe than Sorry” examines the state ofthe science when it comes to the safety of imported food, and details just how much ofthe U.S. food supply comes from China and other lightly regulated countries.

“Inside China’s Toxic Toy Chest” provides a succinct explanation on why lead in consumer products is such a big problem, and why it’s been so hard to legislate it away.

“Are Your Drugs Safe?” Asks the same question ofprescription medications that we asked of food imports: with pharmaceutical manufacturing shifting to China and India, what safeguards are in place to ensure the safety ofdrugs? The answer: not much. This is a subject that has been little addressed by the press, because much of the manufacturing shift has been in bulk pharmaceuticals and products like generic Vitamin C.
