When a family of six showed up at a local hospital sick on New Year’s Day after eating wild mushrooms, doctors knew they could die. They decided to try an experimental treatment used in Gennany to save the lives of their patients. This story provides a rare look inside a hospital that few people outside the medical world see. Because of this case, Dr. Todd Mitchell began efforts to obtain approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for intravenous milk thistle, the drug he obtained from Gennany, to treat victims of mushroom poisoning.
