“A New Dawn?” followed one young mother for more than three years as she tried to beat an addiction to painkillers and complete drug court. In Kentucky and across the country, more nonviolent offenders are being offered drug court instead of prison.
The series highlighted the biological basis of addiction and the many complicating factors that make it especially difficult for women to succeed in getting clean, including poverty, lack of education and sexual abuse.
