The series focused on the pediatric brain tumor surgery program at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center, the children’s hospital serving Memphis and the region. It is affiliated with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and is the busiest such program in the u.S. The stories were designed to give readers a glimpse into the pressures, questions, issues, triumphs and tragedies experienced by the patients and parents who arrive at the hospital looking for cures and thesurgeons and staff struggling to deliver them. We focused on three patients treated during a single week.
