As part of Health Journalism 2009's "Are you ready? Before, during and after the disaster" panel, Onora Lien (special projects manager, King County Healthcare Coalition) presented on "Disaster deaths: overview and key considerations." Lien discussed "fatality management" during disasters, touched on the role of medical examiners and coroners in disaster situations, laid out a few common story ideas and advised reporters on how to avoid common pitfalls and better understand disaster death events.
