If it’s a right, who pays for that care and how much does it cost? When compared with other high-income nations, the highly fragmented and deeply flawed U.S. health care system costs the most yet produces the worst health outcomes for Americans. This tattered patchwork leaves many Americans uninsured or underinsured, meaning millions of adults are unable to pay for the care they and their families need.
Covering those high costs and poor results requires an understanding of health policy at the federal and state levels, including Medicare, Medicaid, employer-sponsored health insurance, the Veterans Administration and the Indian Health Service, among others.
To do this job well, we need trustworthy policy experts, we need to believe in science and health and we need to follow the money.
