RSS service streamlines access to COVID-19 preprints

It can be hard enough to keep up with the peer-reviewed research flooding out of journals related to COVID-19 and the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus. Monitoring the possibly larger flood of preprints — scientific papers made available before publication in a peer-reviewed journal — is even tougher, especially since they aren’t indexed in PubMed.

A new service attempts to streamline the process for journalists and researchers by turning the fire hose of research into something a bit more manageable. The service, by NewsRx, is an RSS feed specifically for COVID-19 preprints. You can check the site itself, sign up for the feed or sign up for email alerts.

NewsRx is a journalism technology company with several resources that reporters may find helpful while reporting on the pandemic, including a primer on preprints. Also, check out AHCJ’s tip sheet about preprints and the recent AHCJ webinar about them.
