The second entry in the Bill of Rights. The amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The 2008 Supreme Court decision District of Columbia v. Heller established the Second Amendment as an individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. But before that, the legal understanding of the amendment was that it’s a collective right to bear arms, not an individual.
