Genetically Modified Organism (GMO)

  • Environmental Health

GMO, short for genetically modified organism, is an organism which has had changes made to their genetic makeup. These changes are done using highly technical instruments that alter the genome of an organism, and can therefore alter their characteristics. This modification can be used for a variety of purposes, such as increasing the yield of certain crops, making human insulin and developing plants that are resistant to pests and diseases.
