The Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX) is a risk calculator that uses a person’s age, height, weight and other demographic information together with clinical details like family history, medications, and their measured bone mineral density to estimate a ten-year risk of hip fracture or other major fractures because of osteoporosis. In 2020, FRAX was highlighted as one of many risk calculators that factors race and ethnicity into clinical outcomes. The FRAX calculator may be incorporated in bone density scanners and is used to guide treatment for osteoporosis.
