A food bank is a non-profit organization that safely stores millions of pounds of food the grocers, retailers, restaurants and individuals donate before it’s delivered to local food programs such as food pantries, according to Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and local meal programs. Some food banks in the United States are so large that more than 25 of them are double the size of an average wholesale club.
