Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)

  • Algorithms and Health Disparities

Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is a clinical test used to measure approximately how well a person’s kidneys are functioning. A blood test measures the value of the biomarker creatinine, and its value is then entered into a mathematical equation to calculate the eGFR. Some versions of the equation produce different results depending on a person’s race.
