Case

  • Firearm Violence

Cylindrical brass container for holding the gunpowder and bullet.  It is closed at one end (the case head) which holds the primer and open at the other (case mouth) for seating the bullet.  After the bullet is discharged, the empty case is pulled backward by the retracting bolt and ejected from the gun, making space for a new cartridge to be loaded.
