AHCJ, with the support of the HealthForward Foundation, provides financial assistance to journalists who wish to attend AHCJ’s annual conference. Fellowships are open to full-time print, broadcast and online journalists and part-timers or freelancers who derive the majority of their income from journalism.

Applicants must be based in one of the following counties. Kansas: Johnson, Wyandotte or Allen counties. Missouri: Jackson, Cass or Lafayette counties.

Cohort Experience: This fellowship is a six-month cohort experience with touch-points throughout the year to strengthen peer and professional relationships. The cohort will kick off at the 2024 conference with a group networking meet-up. There will be at least two additional virtual training opportunities between June and December that Fellows are required to attend. Fellows will also be paired with a mentor through AHCJ’s mentorship program.

Fellowship includes:

  • Conference registration
  • One year’s membership in AHCJ (new or extended)
  • Up to four nights in hotel (Wed.-Sat.)
  • Travel assistance within the continental U.S.
    • We budget approximately $500 for an economy flight and ground transportation. If selected as a fellow and $500 is not sufficient to travel to Los Angeles, please contact Susan Cunningham, AHCJ’s event manager, at susan@healthjournalism.org prior to booking.

Application deadline: March 19, 2025
