Webcast: Challenges and Opportunities Facing an Aging Society

Experts from the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on an Aging Society will gather on April 21st to present policy recommendations to address critical issues surrounding the social, economic and institutional implications of an aging society. The event will be webcast in its entirety online.

The policy-focused event will include remarks from the nation’s leading experts on aging, as well as panel discussions exploring issues on productivity in an aging society, societal cohesion, and intergenerational relationships.

The event will also serve as the unveiling of a specially-themed issue of Daedalus, the academic journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, entitled “Successful Aging of Societies.” This issue of Daedalus features a series of essays focusing on the opportunities and challenges facing the United States as it tackles demographic transformation.

The MacArthur Foundation Research Network on an Aging Society, established in 2008 and led by John W. Rowe, M.D., is an interdisciplinary group of scholars that studies the critical issues surrounding the social, economic, and institutional implications of an aging society. The Network‘s goal is to offer policy options to enhance the transition to a productive, cohesive, secure and equitable aging society.
