The National Institute for Health Care Management will sponsor a webinar on how more health systems are using telemedicine to improve convenience for consumers and provide better access to care for the underserved, particularly those in rural areas.

Despite the advantages of telehealth, state licensure requirements, reimbursement questions and concerns about quality and patient safety limit its use. The draft agenda (pdf) shows that experts will address how health systems can use this technology while protecting patients.

Speakers include Karen DeSalvo, MD, of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; former Sen. William H. Frist, MD, of Teladoc; Damian Gilbert of TouchCare; Mario Gutierrez of the Center for Connected Health Policy; and Howard Rochay of Florida Blue.

Journalists can register here for the webinar, which will be 1-2:30 p.m. ET.
