At the International Conference on Diabetes, three hundred health care providers will learn about how to take the latest research—in regards to food addictions, glycemic control, and the standard American diet—to help patients prevent and manage chronic disease.

More than a dozen international researchers, including Neal Barnard, M.D., conference host and a professor of medicine at the George Washington University; David Jenkins, M.D., creator of the glycemic index and a professor of nutrition and medicine at the University of Toronto; and Frank Hu, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health; will discuss plant-based dietary interventions as a first-line treatment to manage type 2 diabetes.

The International Conference on Diabetes will serve a high-fiber, plant-based breakfast and lunch both days. Fitness expert Lani Muelrath, C.G.F.I., C.P.B.N., F.N.S., will guide clinicians through a series of five-minute workouts, easy to replicate for patients, on Saturday, July 19.

The conference is jointly hosted by the nonprofit Physicians Committee and the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Founded in 1985 by Neal Barnard, M.D., the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization with more than 10,000 doctor members that promotes preventive medicine, conducts clinical research, and encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research.
