9 a.m.-Noon at The Commonwealth Club of California

This summit will take a close look at why Californians continue to smoke despite a 30 year anti-tobacco campaign that includes every type of action from taxing tobacco products to banning smoking in restaurants.

The Summit will conclude with a discussion among business leaders, policymakers, health plans, and physicians on how they can each play a role in helping smokers quit.

Some of the topics to be discussed:

  • Employers and health plans incorporating smoking cessation services based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention smoking cessation guidelines into their standard benefit packages.
  • Preventive care, including smoking cessation treatments, that produces substantial financial savings for employers, employees and health plans.
  • Key influencers who can help people quit and defining action items for them to follow post-summit.

This event is sponsored by Dr. Nancy Snyderman, the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, Safeway, the University of California at San Francisco, Pfizer, Inc., the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Meritain Health, the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association Local 3631, Foundation for a Smokefree America, California Public Employees Retirement System and the State of California.
