NAS Report on Housing, Health, and Homelessness

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) releases its report on chronic homelessness and health. The analysis aims to address how permanent supportive housing programs’ impact on health outcomes and health care costs among the homeless population. It also looks at “policy and program barriers” to scaling up related programs. The report, entitled “Permanent Supportive Housing: Evaluating the Evidence for Improving Health Outcomes among People Experiencing Chronic Homelessness,” was compiled by NAS’ Science and Technology for Sustainability Program and its Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice. 

The report will be released in conjunction with a public briefing on Wednesday, July 11. Offering an overview of the report’s recommendations will be Kenneth Kizer, chair of the study committee, and director of the Institute for Population Health Improvement and distinguished professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis. The briefing will be webcast.

The public briefing will run from 11 a.m. to noon EDT on July 11 in Room 120 of the National Academy of Sciences building, 2101 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. The report is embargoed and not for public release before 11 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 11.
