The Health Data Initiative was launched in 2010 by the Institute of Medicine and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the Community Health Data Initiative. It is a public-private collaboration that encourages innovators to utilize health data to develop applications to raise awareness of health and health system performance and spark community action to improve health.

It brings together a diverse group of data experts, technology developers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, health care system leaders, and community advocates to support innovative applications of health and health care data.

This year’s event will include the Data & Apps Expo with data producers and the developers that use that data to create innovative tools and services to improve the health of individuals and communities.

Speakers will include:

  • Matt Miller, host, “Left, Right & Center,” NPR
  • Todd Park, U.S. chief technology officer
  • Mark T. Bertolini, chairman & president, Aetna
  • Thomas Goetz, executive editor, Wired Magazine
  • Bill Frist, former U.S. senator, Tennessee
