On November 4, the UC Davis John Muir Institute of the Environment and World Food Center are teaming up to host Dialogues and Discourse in Science and Society: Science and the Social License, a dynamic conference that will use climate change policy and genetic engineering as case studies to investigate why public opinion diverges from scientific discovery and what we can do to bridge the innovation gap.  All are welcome, there is no cost to attend.

The world’s population is expanding, food demands are rising, and climate risks are becoming more disruptive. Scientific advancements can be utilized to solve these existential threats, but misinformation and discouraging public opinion prevent these solutions from being brought to light.

How do we close the growing gap between scientific innovation and public acceptance?

This day-long conference will feature perspectives and panel dialogues from scientists, communicators, psychologists, and subject-matter experts, bringing together diverse stakeholders to discuss the relationship between science, culture, and policy.
