At this moment of reckoning — with COVID, climate change, and racial inequality — it has never been more clear that ensuring a safe environment for all requires understanding the ways in which inequity fosters vulnerability to the impacts of climate change and infectious disease.
Through reporting on environmental injustice, journalists can help the public understand these linkages and share the experiences of under-represented communities with a wider audience. At the same time, the news industry is beginning to reckon with its own history of structural inequality and ongoing racism within the newsroom, which have helped to marginalize the concept of environmental justice and the reporters who cover it.
Join the Society of Environmental Journalists on Wednesday, July 8th from 1-2 PM EST, for a #SEJ2020 webinar with environmental reporters and storytellers who will discuss their experiences covering climate, COVID, and environmental justice.
All journalists welcome.
