ProPublica will launch a revamped news application featuring data organized in a way that makes it easier for reporters to write local stories about homes in their areas, comparing them to one another and ranking states against others.
ProPublica’s Charles Ornstein and Lena Groeger will walk conference call participants through the beta version of the app and answer any questions. Stories produced from this data will be embargoed until Monday, Dec. 17, when the new site goes live.
Nursing Home Inspect allows people to search and analyze details of recent nursing home inspection reports from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Currently, you can search by facility name, the deficiency or by keyword. However, the updated version incorporates new information about nursing home fines and aggregates deficiency and fine data at the home and state level. Reporters will be able to quickly determine the homes in their state with the most deficiencies, as well as those who have been penalized the most.
The conference call will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. ET.
To join the call, sign up here and ProPublica will send you the details on how to participate. If you have any questions, contact Mike Webb.
