More than 24 million people over age 40 in the U.S. have cataracts, a leading cause of blindness. The longer treatment is delayed, the more difficult it can be to successfully remove the cataract and restore vision according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The AAO and other organizations urge everyone to have their eyes examined regularly.
