March 23
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. according to the American Diabetes Association. This observance is held every fourth Tuesday in March; it’s a one-day, “wake-up call” asking the American public to take the diabetes risk test to find out if they are likely to develop type 2 diabetes. About 26.8% of (14.3 million) Americans age 65 and older with diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes. Left untreated or poorly managed, diabetes and related complications lead to excess hospitalization, millions in additional medical costs and premature death.
